Experiencing how our autonomic nervous system responds to what is happening around us and how we perceive the inner expressions of our bodily systems, is something we can tap into to bring more balance in our lives.
The body seeks coherency, homeostasis, a synchronisation of physiological rhythms. It loves the ebb and flow between the calm of ease and gentle activation, pendulations.
Imagine how your body feels with…
These are some examples of how using pleasant awareness of body sensations can bring your nervous system into a place of safety. And this is where we start. We discover together how to anchor into this, to show your systems a new experience, a safe and corrective experience.
When we feel safe that is when we can begin to shift into holding less tension, holding less anxiety. Less fight, flight or freeze or submit. Gently we can re-negotiate and relieve the physical, emotional and physiological effects of chronic stress or trauma.
Becoming a Somatic Be’ing is about embodying be'ing in the present moment instead of just do'ing. We are biologically primed to maintain connection and harmony.
As humans we are hardwired to check in with our senses that we are safe in our environments, our outward landscape and our inner landscape. Our exteroception and interoception senses are there to support us into activation (hyper-arousal or hypo-arousal) and then into deactivation, so to be able to land us back into our own self-regulation window.
What we are looking at accomplishing in these sessions is to develop a re-awareness of all our senses, expand mind-body coherency and bringing in greater resiliency to living life.
Sight | Taste | Touch | Hearing | Smell | Equilibrioception | Proprioception | Interoception
Applying concepts of polyvagal theory, neuroception and neuroplasticity, there are choices of active bodily aware exercises for us to explore during the session and for you to continue to practice in between sessions.
The simplicity in this style of therapy is it is your own choosing on how much or little you share of your life experiences.
Using a blend of top-down (cognitive) and bottom-up (sensory) exercises allows for a positive shift in the regulation of your nervous system, bringing yourself more into a felt sense of safety with a larger capacity. When your body knows it is safe, there is an opportunity for past stressful events to obtain a sense of containment, release and/or completion.
